Technical Specifications of Aluminum Garage Doors: Panels, Frames, Battens, and Color Options

Standard panel thickness, aluminum frame wall thickness, grille profiles and the 10 stock color finishes behind our aluminum garage doors, with guidance on how to specify them for a project.

Technical specifications determine the performance and service life of an aluminum garage door. Drawing on years of manufacturing experience and project delivery across more than 50 countries, we have standardized our core dimensions while maintaining full customization capability for diverse architectural requirements.

Panel Thickness: 60mm as the Structural Baseline

Panel thickness directly affects wind-load resistance, thermal insulation, and overall rigidity. Our aluminum grille doors use a standard 60mm panel thickness — a dimension validated through repeated engineering cycles to deliver sufficient structural strength without unnecessary weight.

The 60mm specification fits the majority of residential and commercial openings. For projects with exceptional demands — oversized spans or high-wind zones — we adjust frame wall thickness and grille specifications rather than simply thickening the panel, avoiding avoidable weight penalties.

Aluminum Frame: Default Black, 3.0mm Wall Thickness

The frame is the structural skeleton of the garage door, bearing the primary mechanical loads. Our aluminum frames default to a black finish with a 3.0mm wall thickness. This dimension balances strength and weight, handling the repeated stress cycles of daily operation. (optional for PU Foam Insulated)

The default black finish is driven by two factors. Black integrates with most modern architectural facades without clashing. Black powder coating also demonstrates stable performance in weather resistance and UV protection, resisting fading over extended outdoor exposure.

Grille Specifications: Default and Optional Profiles

The grille is the defining visual element of an aluminum grille door. Its profile selection affects ventilation, daylight transmission, and privacy.

Default profile: 20×20mm cross-section, effective width range 160mm, aluminum wall thickness 1.0mm. This profile delivers balanced ventilation and visual appeal for most residential projects.

Optional profiles include four alternatives:

  • 40×20mm, width 120mm, wall thickness 1.8mm. The increased wall thickness improves deformation resistance, suited for applications with higher structural demands.
  • 30×30mm, width 120mm, wall thickness 1.0mm. A square cross-section offering a different visual proportion.
  • 40×30mm, width 140mm, wall thickness 1.0mm. A rectangular cross-section that reads more expansive in the horizontal axis.
  • 95×5mm, width 100mm, wall thickness 1.0mm. A flat profile suited to minimalist architectural designs.

The width range (120mm, 140mm, 160mm) refers to the effective width of a single grille bar. Final cutting is determined by the wall opening dimensions and desired spacing density.

Color Options: 10 Stock Finishes and Custom Matching

Color is a critical component of architectural appearance. We maintain 10 stock colors across two categories — solid colors and wood-grain finishes — and support custom color matching for projects that require it.

Solid colors (2 options):

  • Sand Black
  • Dark Grey

Wood-grain colors (8 options):

  • #20751, #20752, #20753, #20754
  • #20745, #20766
  • #20760 (Black Wood Grain)
  • #20758

Wood-grain finishes are achieved through a transfer printing process that produces clear texture definition and strong weather resistance. The image above shows all 10 stock color samples side by side.

For projects where stock colors do not match the design intent, we offer custom color matching. The client supplies a physical color sample, we produce a color match sample for approval, then proceed to batch production. This process ensures the final product aligns precisely with the client's design specification.

The Engineering Significance of Technical Specifications

These parameters do not operate in isolation. Panel thickness, frame wall thickness, and grille profile collectively determine the overall performance of the garage door. Selection should account for:

Local climate conditions (wind load, temperature variation), opening dimensions and operating mechanism, the overall design language of the building facade, and long-term maintenance requirements. Our engineering team provides technical guidance at the project specification stage, helping clients find the optimal balance between performance and cost.
